The Man in White, Three Deer & A Tree Limb – 3 Sheryl York Short Stories
The Man in White...
Many years ago, when my husband and I were still just dating we had a disagreement, and I really thought it was over. We’d broken up and decided not to see each other anymore. I drove myself to a park to sit by the water where I could watch the Mallards and pray. In fact, it was the very same park we’d met at. I guess I just felt the need to be there. Anyway, I sat on a park bench facing the pond and prayed quietly and I couldn’t help myself. I was pretty upset so I began crying quietly as I asked the Lord what to do or if I should do anything. Out of the blue, a very nice-looking young man came walking over to me. He was all dressed in white which I remember at the time thinking was odd because it was a park with lots of dirt, kids on skateboards, riding bikes and kicking up dirt, and of course the pond. I personally have an aversion to even wearing white because it gets dirty so easily, so it really stood out. He came over and asked me if I was okay and if he could sit down on the bench. Well, what was I going to say? No, lol it’s my bench. Ha ha. I said of course. He said he noticed that I was crying and wondered if I needed someone to talk to. I thanked him but said no, I am talking to God right now and he immediately said, ‘Oh okay, you’re talking to just the right person so I’ll leave you two alone.’ He got up and walked away. I felt horrible though. Like this guy came all the way over to see if I was okay and I kind of just blew him off. I felt like I was supposed to apologize so I got up within minutes and looked for him and could not find him at all. There were two parking lots, and both were close by, but I could not see him getting into a car or even a car leaving. I have always believed that the Lord blessed me that day by letting me experience an angel unawares.
Hebrews 13:2
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Three Deer...
Only about a year later (by this time we were married) I worked about a 35-minute drive from my home in the state of California. Those who know some of the roads on the Central Coast would also know that many of the smaller roads that take you from one town to another are small little 2 lane highways. On this particular road between my job and my home, I was driving home one night later than usual because I’d been in a meeting after work, and I was very tired but thinking about the day and couldn’t wait to get home. On the left of me was a mountain and on the right was a cliff. On these types of roads tired is never a good thing because you cannot veer too far or you will go over, and you should not fall asleep on a road this small because with only 2 lanes there were occasionally vehicles that were coming from the other direction. Another thing to watch for was deer. As I came around a corner, I saw headlights coming right at me. They did not appear to be in their own lane, and I couldn’t move to the right any more than I was because of the cliff. Then if that wasn’t bad enough because of both of our headlights shining I also noticed that there were 3 deer across this 2 lane highway in front of me and the other vehicle coming toward me. There was simply nowhere to go and no way to stop fast enough. It seemed inevitable that an accident of some kind was going to take place because I couldn’t move into the other lane because the car was coming and if I stayed in mine, I was most certainly going to hit several of the deer. I closed my eyes for a few seconds and simply said ‘Jesus’ and then I opened my eyes and there was nothing there. I looked in my rear-view mirror and I could see the deer were now behind me and the red lights of that vehicle as if it had passed me somehow. ‘What in the world’ I thought. I don’t know. I can imagine no other scenario than a miracle, because somehow within seconds I was on the other side of a vehicle and 3 deer on a 2-lane road with 3 deer, and I hadn’t had any accident at all. Was I transported somehow? Again, I don’t know because I didn’t see what happened, but no one can make me believe it wasn’t something supernatural.
Habakkuk 3:19
The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.

A Tree Limb
While working as an Advertising Manager in the little seaside community of Cambria, I was dearly loved in my position by many. I worked in Advertising and did the advertisements for the Real Estate section which was a really big deal in this community of fancy and expensive homes. People have always told me I have a great personality and I can literally get along with or become friends with anyone. They used to say my husband's personality was like a fine wine, you really had to get used to him... lol but I was more like Mountain Dew. Everyone loved me. Anyway, I began having trouble with this one Real Estate Agent. It seemed like no matter what I did or how I went out of my way for this woman she was never satisfied. In fact, it got to the point where she started even calling my boss and trying to get me in trouble. This was devastating to me. I really prided myself on the job and I did and how well I worked with people, but I couldn’t seem to get this woman to not only work with me but to like me at all. As I have grown through the years as a Christian today this wouldn’t have affected me the same way but back then I was still a babe in Christ. I’d probably only been saved for about a year or so when this was taking place so it brought me to tears at times when she would call complaining about me and purposely trying to get me terminated if she could. I was good friends with my boss at the time and she knew this woman and she also knew how well I worked with everyone else, so it never bothered her like it did me. So, one day after she called yet again to complain about something she didn’t like about either the placement of her advertisement or whatever, I was sitting at my desk talking to a friend who was also a realtor and a client of mine. We were planning lunch together when she interrupted the conversation by saying, “Oh my gosh’, So I was like, what happened? She said, you won’t believe this but I’m sitting here at my desk, and I just saw a huge tree limb fall right out on Main Street, and guess whose car it fell into? Who, tell me, I said. It literally fell right into this woman who was always complaining about me and had just gotten off the phone with my boss. Right into her car and I do mean INTO her car. She had a fancy convertible, and the top was up but they aren’t very strong, so it fell right through and into her car. I was pretty stunned to say the least but as I said, I was a babe in Christ and that is the first time I felt like, ‘Wow, my Father protects His own. He has my back and won’t let people continue to hurt me. Praise the Lord for His goodness.
Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
Psalm 91:8
Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.
